Grow Instagram Engagement
By far Instagram is one of my favorite platforms but at the same time, I have a love-hate relationship with it. I’ve always done my research on Instagram engagement and have taken courses.
Photography is not exactly my forte and on Instagram pictures are most of the time worth a thousand words. Yet, I still try my best and try to upload a good photo on to my Instagram. Over the years I have learned that my pre-planned photos do best, why? Well because I’ve gotten the lighting right, the right angle for the object or person and it goes well with my theme.
Lesson 1: The photo
I remember when Instagram first came out and no matter the photo you posted whether it was ugly or nice people wouldn’t care and would still engage, but oh boy are those days long gone.
What I do to make my pictures Instagram worthy, pictures that my followers will engage with is I edit them, yes! Unless you are a professional photographer nine times out of ten you are going to have to edit your photo even if its just a little bit, for this I use the VSCO app, this app is a LIFESAVER! No joke, it has a variety of amazing settings and you could literally turn a non-appealing photo into an amazing one! Mess around with the app and see what you like the best.
When you are uploading your photo don’t forget to add your location, this helps people searching for certain cities or locations find you as well and leaves the door open for them to go and check out your profile.
Lesson 2: Your Caption
Captions are very very important you have to tie in your photo with your caption and you have to reel the person who is about to stumble on it, into it. So your probably asking yourself well umm how exactly do I do that? Well, you do this by telling a story.
Lets say your posting a photo of your dog for example don’t just upload it and put “He’s so cute” #cutepuppy #bestfriend, the person on the other side most of the time won’t really care that you think you have the cutest puppy, maybe they have a dog and think theirs is the cutest puppy around, but anyways back to my point you want to create an emotion when people see your posts. You want them to be able to relate to you and see you as a real person not just scroll by and say oh there’s that girl with another pic of her dog, they won’t even care to read the caption the next time.
Engage Your Audience
What you want to do is write an engaging caption something like a story, for example “I can remember the first time my son Jacks and I met Frodo, he was at a shelter and as soon as we saw him he ran to us and we instantly bonded now 2 years later and he’s still Jacks best pal”… etc. That wasn’t my best example as I don’t own a dog but I’m hoping your understanding what I am trying to say here. You want to cause an emotion to the person on the other side, let them into your life and the next time they are scrolling past your post they will want to stop and read, and they will say “oh look there’s Frodo”. Now they’ll feel that connection, which is what we want.
Your Business Captions
Now if you are running a business you will post other things besides your personal photos may be a product launch of your new ebook. Instead of posting a caption that says “New ebook coming soon only $12 #deals #lifechanging”. What you want to do is maybe take a photo of someone reading it or a testimonial of someone who has read it and in the caption explain why people are going to want to buy this. Remember it is always about them not about you. People are looking to help and better themselves so how is this ebook going to benefit them? Why should they put their hard earned money into your new ebook? People a lot of the times buy from feeling an emotion, something caused them to and/or they can picture themselves with it and how it can change or benefit them.
For example, when most people buy Gucci sandals they buy them because they feel like with these sandals people will see them differently and they will feel more confident with them on. See bought with emotion. I’m sure you have bought things because you pictured how it would benefit you.

Lesson 3: Be active on Instagram
I know how hard it can be, I’ve been guilty of slacking off on Instagram as well. It is very important to remain consistent on the platform. If you post for let’s say a whole month and you’re getting good engagement and suddenly you take a couple days off, then you come back and post just once a day. You will be right back where you started, with less engagement and maybe you’ll even lose some followers, especially if the algorithm changes it will be really hard for your content to even show up on peoples feed.
Remaining active also means taking the time to like and comment on other peoples photos. Leave a thoughtful comment, none of that “nice pic” stuff. Let them remember you by your comment and leave them wanting to say “wow who is this person let me go check out their page” this may turn into them showing your photos some love and hopefully you will have gained a new follower as well.
As a busy mom of 2, I don’t have time most days to stop and upload as much as I should. I know how hard it can be to keep up with so if your like me and don’t have time to post as much on Instagram then I recommend having an app assist you in scheduling your photos to be uploaded at the specific time you want, I personally use Tailwind to schedule my posts throughout the week, it usually takes close to an hour to figure out my posts and upload them to tailwind and boom I’m set for the week, it’s been a lifesaver. if you’d like to try Tailwind for 30 days Free no credit card required then just click HERE
An awesome tool to use is Instagram stories. A lot of people tend to watch these before they scroll through their feed so make sure to use it to your advantage. It’s fairly fast to just post a mini video snippet or post a quick photo. Try it out. Use hashtags and geotags to let people find your stories and have them visit your profile.
